We can't do it alone as many of us are getting older and multi-tasking just isn't what it used to be. We can always use an extra hand around this place both during the gatherings and between them. Visit the "Work Days" link to see which weekends we have scheduled for grounds type work. During, before and after the gatherings we need people for a whole host of projects like putting out signs on the roads, setting up trash cans and tables, raising tents for our veterans and drums. Installing the sound system, speakers and lights. General site clean up, raking the dance circle, carrying groceries, stacking firewood etc. During the event the cook shack needs people to prepare, serve and cleanup not just the pots and pans but the area around the cook shack also. Just keeping the trash cans emptied is a big help. We do a trash run at least twice a day around the circle and in between runs we are always picking up trash. We also need parking lot attendents, people who will just sit by the entrance road and tell the general public where to park or camp. When night comes many people like to have a fire burning but we need to keep an eye on those fires so our security team has fire watch duties to perform. After the event it is general cleanup time and putting all of our "toys" away so they will be ready for the next gathering. Now all of this sounds like work and it is but we also need help in other areas that are less labor intensive. We could use people who have cameras and camcorders who would be willing to document the gatherings. Pictures and video clips of Grand Entry, Honor Dances and specific dance categories are greatly desired along with camp feed, demonstrators, educators, vendors and campers. Someone who has knowledge of web sites and would be willing to devote the time and effort to maintaining the Chambers Farm site would indeed be a blessing. Printing and distributing fliers in your area, sending emails to friends, family and business associates informing them of the gatherings helps to bring more people onto the grounds so that they too may learn and enjoy. Our "Work Days" are often on the weekends and many of us drive our RV's or bring a tent and camp out for the duration. These weekends turn out to be fun "mini-events" with pot luck suppers and lots of laughs. Sometimes the volunteers turn out to be gifted musicians and at nights we sit around a fire playing and listening to home grown music and telling tall tales. Life on the road as a vendor is full of adventure and many a fine story has been told and re-told so many times that with each telling it grows a little bigger and a little wilder. So come and join us, a little hard work and lots of laughter is good for the soul and has never hurt anyone. Visit the "Contact Us" page for a list of people who will help you get started in becoming part of the Family.
